Mock examA worked example
A question from the bank with its answer and the reasoning behind it. Every practice question comes with an explanation like this one.
A Scrum Master is asked by a Developer for the answer to a technical design question the Developer could work out with the team. What is the most appropriate response?
- AGive the answer, since removing the impediment quickly serves the team
- BRedirect the question to the Developers so the decision stays with those accountable for it(correct answer)
- CRefuse to engage, as technical questions are outside the Scrum Master's scope
- DEscalate the question to a technical architect for a definitive ruling
Why
The Developers are accountable for all technical decisions. Answering for them, even correctly, transfers a decision they own and teaches them to route future decisions through the Scrum Master. Redirecting is not refusal (C) — the Scrum Master still helps, by making sure the team has what it needs to decide. Escalation (D) removes the decision from the team entirely.
