Mock examA worked example
A question from the bank with its answer and the reasoning behind it. Every practice question comes with an explanation like this one.
Stakeholders routinely bypass the Product Owner and ask Developers directly for changes mid-Sprint. What should the Scrum Master do?
- AInstruct the Developers to refuse all such requests
- BCoach both sides: help Developers redirect requests to the Product Owner, and help stakeholders see why a single ordering point serves them better(correct answer)
- CAsk the Product Owner to attend every conversation the Developers have with stakeholders
- DEscalate to management to enforce the process
Why
The behaviour has two sides and both need addressing. Developers need a way to redirect without damaging relationships, and stakeholders need to understand that one ordering point is what stops their request being lost or silently traded away. Instructing refusal (A) creates friction without understanding, constant Product Owner attendance (C) is impractical and infantilising, and enforcement (D) produces compliance rather than agreement.
