Mock examA worked example
A question from the bank with its answer and the reasoning behind it. Every practice question comes with an explanation like this one.
A team's velocity has fallen for three consecutive Sprints. What is the most appropriate interpretation?
- AThe team's productivity has declined and should be addressed
- BIt is a signal worth investigating with the team, not a conclusion — the cause could be estimation drift, changed composition, absorbed technical debt or harder work(correct answer)
- CThe team should recalibrate its estimates to restore the previous number
- DThe Sprint length should be increased
Why
Velocity is an input to the team's own forecasting, not a productivity measure, and a change in it is ambiguous by construction. Treating the fall as a verdict (A) invites the team to inflate estimates, which is exactly what recalibrating to restore the number (C) does explicitly. Investigating with the team keeps the measure useful.
