A worked example

A question from the bank with its answer and the reasoning behind it. Every practice question comes with an explanation like this one.

Two teams on the same product have developed different Definitions of Done, one considerably weaker. What is the most significant consequence?

  • AThe teams' velocities are no longer comparable
  • BThe combined Increment cannot be asserted as releasable, because part of it does not meet the standard(correct answer)
  • CThe Product Owner cannot order the Product Backlog
  • DThe teams will have different Sprint lengths

Why

The Increment is the sum of the teams' work. If part of it meets a weaker standard, no one can honestly say the whole is releasable, and the transparency that Sprint Review inspection depends on is lost. Velocity comparison (A) was never valid anyway, and neither backlog ordering (C) nor Sprint length (D) follows from the divergence.
