ITIL 5: Guiding Principles practice questions

93 questions on Guiding Principles, one of the 11 areas assessed in ITIL 5 Foundation. Untimed, with an explanation after every answer.

ITIL 5 keeps the seven guiding principles of ITIL 4 unchanged: focus on value, start where you are, progress iteratively with feedback, collaborate and promote visibility, think and work holistically, keep it simple and practical, and optimize and automate. Most questions describe a scenario and ask which principle it applies or violates.

Several traps recur. Start where you are means assessing the current state, not preserving it. Optimize and automate means optimising first, not automating everything that can be automated. The principles are not applied in a fixed sequence and none outranks the others: conflicts are settled by judgement. Design for experience sounds plausible but is not a guiding principle.
