ITIL 5: Product & Service Lifecycle practice questions
46 questions on Product & Service Lifecycle, one of the 11 areas assessed in ITIL 5 Foundation. Untimed, with an explanation after every answer.
This is the operating model at the centre of ITIL 5, with eight activities: Discover, Design, Acquire, Build, Transition, Operate, Deliver and Support. Questions match a scenario to an activity: sizing demand is Discover, sourcing from a supplier is Acquire, developing in-house is Build, moving into live use is Transition, and resolving user requests is Support.
The biggest trap is ITIL 4 material. Plan, Improve and Engage were ITIL 4 service value chain activities and have no counterpart, and there is no Govern activity. Operate keeps the product running, Deliver gets it to consumers at agreed levels, Support answers users. The order is a typical flow, not a stage gate: activities repeat and overlap.

A question from the bank with its answer and the reasoning behind it. Every practice question comes with an explanation like this one.
Which of the eight product and service lifecycle activities is responsible for continual improvement?
- AOperate
- BNone of them, because continual improvement is a separate element of the ITIL Value System that applies across the whole lifecycle(correct answer)
- CDeliver
- DTransition
Why
ITIL 4 had an Improve activity inside the service value chain. The eight-activity lifecycle has no such activity: continual improvement sits alongside it in the ITIL Value System and applies to every activity rather than being one of them.
