ITIL 5: Service Management Concepts practice questions

65 questions on Service Management Concepts, one of the 11 areas assessed in ITIL 5 Foundation. Untimed, with an explanation after every answer.

This topic tests the vocabulary of value. A service enables value co-creation by facilitating outcomes the consumer wants, while the provider manages specific costs and risks on their behalf. Expect questions on outputs versus outcomes, the three consumer roles (user, customer, sponsor), service relationships, and what a service offering contains: goods, access to resources and service actions.

The traps are near-synonyms. The sponsor authorises the budget, the customer defines requirements, the user uses the service. Value is defined by the consumer and is never created by the provider alone. An output can be intangible and an outcome tangible: the difference is deliverable versus result. A service offering never includes guaranteed outcomes.
